Simply Dinny by Dinny Hall - New Exclusive Collection Launches at Jon Richard
• Emma
We are very excited to announce that our new collection, Simply Dinny by Dinny Hall, has now launched online for Autumn/Winter 2013! The exclusive collection, which is a collaboration between jewellery designer Dinny Hall and our Simply Silver brand, features four beautiful ranges - Takenoko, Peardrops, Raindrops and Petals- all in luxury sterling silver, and perfect for day and eveningwear, as well as gorgeous gifts.
Inspired by nature, the pieces are pretty and delicate, featuring dainty pendant motifs such as petal leaves, crystal drops and linked peardrops. As Dinny Hall is currently celebrating 30 years as an iconic British jeweller, we caught up with her to discuss her succesfull career, why she decided to work with Jon Richard, and her personal favourites from the collection....
How did you start your career?
In terms of my career – I always knew what I wanted to do. I always wanted to work in classic fashion, creating jewellery with the heritage factor. I studied at Central Saint Martin’s, which was where my work was first spotted. A Buyer at Liberty’s attended my show and was interested in my jewellery, and that is where it all began.
Highlights/Key moments so far...
A pair of statement Dinny Hall earrings were featured on the cover of Elle magazine in 1986, which for that time period was quite a rare moment for a female designer to gain such high coverage in one of the most famous Fashion magazines.
How would you describe yourself as a jewellery designer?
I would say that the Dinny Hall brand retails itself as a traditional British jewellers. We have been running for 30 years, creating classic and timeless jewellery. I always wanted to work with metals that people can afford, so people can buy into my brand. We create everyday jewellery such as dainty pendant necklaces from £60, yet also take on commissions with being a jeweller, we have recently designed a one- off piece which would retail at £60,000.

You will obviously get asked on a regular basis to collaborate with brands and department stores, so why did you want to work with Jon Richard?
I wanted to work with Jon Richard because you are a jewellery specialist. There is a nice trust element that goes with working with a company whose number one purpose is to solely be a jewellery specialist. I was also impressed with the way I was approached. With Jon Richard, I felt that my styles can be interpreted into an exclusive collection which is more accessible for the High Street customer, yet keeping my traditional styling in mind. From looking at the Jon Richard ranges, I could see that we could mirror my classic collections into collaboration that would work really well and have the signature Dinny Hall stamp.
Talk us through the collections for Simply Dinny – the exclusive collection at Jon Richard, and which is a personal favourite?...
The range is split into four collections – Takenoko, Petals, Raindrops and Peardrops. The Takenoko collection is inspired by my ‘bamboo’ range, which has been made a little more modern, and is one of my personal favourites. Influenced by nature, bamboo also has a deep meaning in China and is known for its strong, flexible properties; therefore I wanted to incorporate this into my designs. Gucci once featured bamboo handle bags which were stunning, and showcased how amazing bamboo can look in accessories. The other collections all take features and styling from my current Dinny Hall ranges, and are designed to be worn to match accessories such as bags and shoes.

Simply Dinny Double Peardrop Necklace £60
What is your favourite collection from Dinny Hall?
It would have to be the Talitha collection, where 1970’s model Talitha Getty was my muse. From admiring her shoots, I would often wonder ‘how would I dress her’, thus creating the collection. The statement earrings have a very Moroccan feel.
Who are your favourite designers and inspirations?
I like to pick out inspirations from the more mainstream designers like Gucci purely from their accessories, especially shoes. My other favourites are Hermes for their bags, Erdem, Isabel Marant, Sarah Bailey for McQueen, and in terms of the High Street, I would say Reiss.
Tell us your jewellery tip...
Always try to ‘pick buckles’ – in which I mean match your jewellery with elements from your accessories such as handbag and shoes. Use co-ordinating motifs and match what is going on with your clothes.
What is the overall aim for the Simply Dinny collection?
Basically, we want to get the women shoppers to love the collection and buy timeless pieces for themselves. The range makes beautiful gifts too so hopefully shoppers will then pick up pieces for their family and friends, When you buy a piece from the collection, it will carry you through to the next season, where you can then pick up another piece which relates from one season to the other. The main thing is that you can ‘keep’ it – a jewellery box treasure which is timeless.
