Jon Richard's inspiring trip to London

Earlier this week, the JR team decided to head out of the office and over to Retail Week’s Be Inspired conference, in London. As Jon Richard is a business for women, run by women, the conference’s promise to proactively develop our female leaders by arming retail talent with the skills they need to turn inspiration into action spoke to us in volumes. We couldn’t wait to hear what some of the industry’s most successful female’s had to say about gender diversity in the work place and their thoughts on how more women can foster a vibrant and prosperous career.We were privileged to hear from the likes of Emma Barnett, a BBC broadcaster and journalist, and Tanya Joseph, the marketer behind the ‘This Girl Can’ campaign.Whilst gender equality in the workplace has progressed over the past several decades, it’s clear that we've still got a long way to go. 74% of all director roles are filled by men, and the gender pay gap means that, on average, women work for free 51 days of the year. What’s more, whilst 60% off all retail employees are female, only 15% of retail CEO’s are. We're proud and privileged to say that here at Jon Richard we are a part of that 15% of retail businesses with a female CEO.So, it's understandable that sometimes it feels like the odds are stacked against us. But, by no means does it mean we should give up. The Be Inspired conference was chock full of fabulous ladies who have proved it is possible to pave a successful career in today’s society, and who were offering advice by the bucket load.After listening to this incredible collection of women’s success stories and words of wisdom, here are the top points we took away from the conference.
