International Day Of The Girl: How to empower yourself every day

• JonRichard

Happy International Day of the Girl! Since 2012, the United Nations have marked the 11th October as a day that aims to highlight and address the needs and challenges girls face, while promoting girls' empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights. As a business for women, run predominantly by women, this message is a hugely important one to us here at Jon Richard. We strongly believe that every woman and girl out there should feel empowered to follow her own path and stand up for what she believes in.For this reason, we are thrilled to be partnering with Dress for Success; an incredible not-for-profit organization that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Watch this space for the exciting projects we’ll be working on with Dress for Success in the future. For now though, here are three ways to unleash your inner confidence and push yourself to be the very best you can be, on those days when you’re feeling a little lost.1. UNLEASH YOUR INNER CONFIDENCE THROUGH YOUR WARDROBEThey say dress for the job you want, not the job you have. If you look you’re best and feel great, it will shine through in your actions. You’ll find yourself standing a little taller and feeling that bit more confident, empowering you to take the day head on.Wear outfits that suit you and your shape, but that are smart and stylish. Heels are a great way to put a little power in your walk, but equally if you don’t feel confident walking in them, don’t feel pressured to. A super stylish pair of flats will do the trick. Of course, here at Jon Richard, we think it’s all about the accessories. Use your jewellery to upgrade your wardrobe and achieve that perfectly polished look.2. STAND PROUDIf you haven’t yet watched Amy Cuddy’s TED talk on body language, we say stop what you’re doing and take a look, immediately. The social psychologist explains her theory on ‘power posing’, and how the way you stand has an instant impact on the way you feel and act. Her most valued piece of advice- if you’re ever feeling nervous or unsteady, if you’re about to head into an important meeting or interview and need a confidence boost, find a quiet area and do ‘the superman pose’. Stand with your hands on your hips, your feet shoulder width apart, and your head held high. This powerful and confident pose will deliver almost instant self-assurance, not only by changing your perception of yourself but also by physically affecting your body chemistry and hormones. Don’t believe us? Give it a try.3. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELFThis one’s an important one- take care of yourself. Feeling stressed, tired and overworked is not going to do anything for your self-esteem levels. Yes, it’s important to work hard, but remember to take time out for yourself, too. Get plenty of sleep, eat well, exercise and spend time with your loved ones. In the long run, it will only increase your productivity and boost your confidence.
