High-end Halloween: The sophisticated way to celebrate this season
• JonRichard
Halloween
is the best excuse to go all-out tacky, but if you're after something a little
more refined this year, we’ve got you covered. If you’ve been invited to a
spooky-yet-sophisticated soiree or an elegant Halloween dinner party, follow
our step by step makeup guide for your new go-to refined Halloween aesthetic.
We teamed up with Kat Von D Beauty (the go-to destination for bold, vivid coloured, cruelty-free makeup) at Debenhams Market Street Manchester, to create an iconic gothic glam Halloween look just for you.
Step
up your Halloween game this year and check out the key steps you’ll need to
achieve our new frighteningly favourite Halloween look for 2019...
Step One
Maximise
the shape of your eyebrows by using a brow brush to tame the hair upwards. For perfectly full and balanced brows, use Browstruck powder to instantly fill in and even out your eyebrow
shape with a realistic hair-like finish. Prime under and around your eyes with
KVD Lock It concealer. Choose a shade of
concealer that is two shades lighter than the skin tone under the eye to
correct darkness and discolouration.
Step Two
Draw and apply a winged shape under and around your eyelid with KVD Everlasting Lip Liner, in a shade of your choice
(we opted for a vivid Coven shade). Blend the outline of the winged shape with a
crease brush and use a similar shade in powder from the KVD Limited Edition ‘Vegan Love’ Eyeshadow
palette to blend and fill.
Step Three
Intensify and define your eyes by adding black eyebrow pomade / black
eyeshadow as close to the lash line as possible. Eyeliner can be used within
the waterline and a highlight can be applied to the inside corner of the eyes
for maximum impact. Apply KVD Go Big Or Go
Home mascara by working the brush from the lash roots, wiggling through to the tips. Add more layers of
mascara to turn up the volume.
Step Four
Blend
the outline of your gothic glam winged eye makeup with a concealer to match
your skin tone. Prime your skin (forehead,
cheeks and chin) and apply KVD True Portrait Foundation. Use KVD Lock It Concealer to buff in the
foundation, removing any excess concealer from under your eyes.
Not sure where to start with contouring? Here’s a top tip from @nadinesface@katvondeebeautymanchester: “Using a darker shade of powder, define your cheekbones by drawing a line from the top of your ear to the corner of the mouth. Apply your highlight by using a lighter powder and imagining where the sun would hit your face – cheeks, forehead, nose and chin are the key areas!”
Step Six
It’s
time to create your ombre lip! Begin by
outlining your lips with Kat Von D - 'Everlasting' Lip Liner 0.3g (used to draw your winged eye outline in Step 2).
Step Seven
Apply KVD Exorcism Everlasting Liquid Lipstick to lips and leave to dry for a matte finish. Apply white lipstick to the centre of lips and blend with a brush into the matte lip colour to create an ombre effect. Add extra shine to your lips and brow bone with the ‘pink opal’ powder shade from KVD Alchemist Highlighter and Contour Palette for that final touch.
Step Eight
Complete
the look by using KVD Dagger Tattoo Liner to draw the trademark
Kat Von Dee star on your cheekbone.
