We catch up with fab fashion blogger Emma from Fashion Mommy, and talk about breaking into the blogging industry, BBC Radio big breaks, and her love for...um...Pat Butcher! Tell us about yourself, and what made you go into blogging? I am a 37 year old mom of a gorgeous two year old boy. I was a Deputy Head teacher in a Primary School, but a difficult pregnancy, followed by severe post natal depression that lasted for almost a year led me to take a career break in order to recover. I had always had a love of Fashion that led to me devouring every fash mag on the market, and enjoyed writing, so I decided to set up a blog for something to do in my ‘me’ time. I asked my friends and family to read it, got some positive feedback, and ‘Fashion-Mommy was born. Tell us more about Fashion Mommy... Fashion-Mommy is a mixture of local, national and International fashion news and events. It has a good mix of facts and opinions, and features everything from High Street to Haute Couture. I love to write about people who’s style I admire – so lots of Sarah Jessica Parker, Kate Moss and Kate Middleton, as well as looking at important issues – the teenage style stars who are growing up too quickly, ethical fashion, the sizing debates. Fashion-Mommy is like your favourite style magazines, but updated up to three times a day!What have been your biggest blog achievements to date? So many! Hitting 100,000 hits in the first 10months of the blog. Being asked to write guests posts as for High Street brands and online newspapers as a direct response from the blog. Being able to run by own competition by a top High Street brand. Being asked to appear on BBC radio as a style and fashion expert on the Joanne Malin show. Being asked to attend press shows and being taken seriously by the industry. There are just so many things that I couldn’t have achieved without Fashion-Mommy. Describe your own personal style? I’m a style chameleon! I love this season’s 70s looks, wide leg trousers and pussycat bow blouses, but, being curvy I also like to wear the Mad Men style fitted looks that enhance the figure. I’m not really a jeans girl, I much prefer a dress or skirt. And its heels all the way for me. What would you say is your own personal staple accessory? Chandelier earrings – the bigger, the better. I think Eastenders Pat Butcher is a much underrated style icon! What are your favourite 3 pieces from Jon Richard and why?
