Awards Season: Getting Ready For The Oscars

• JonRichard

The mother of all awards ceremonies, The Oscars, will be taking place once again this Sunday- and we can’t wait. The ceremony will mark the end of another fabulous awards season, and my god, haven’t we seen some amazing things this year? On top of the incredible array of gowns and dresses that graced the red carpet, there was: Adele snapping her Grammy in half so she could share it with Beyoncé; one of Katy Perry’s dancing houses tumbling off the stage; and of course, Meryl Streep’s incredible Golden Globes speech. We can’t wait to see what happens next. That Friday afternoon feeling has well and truly hit the Jon Richard HQ, with conversations turning to what jewellery trends we expect to see on the red carpet, this Sunday. Here are our top predictions:Giant Mismatched EarringsStatement earrings are all the rage this season. It’s time to invest in a few pairs of truly spectacular (and giant) earrings, because you’ll be wearing them with everything. If you really want to embrace the trend, then definitely go for mismatched earrings. This look was all over the catwalks during London Fashion Week and will be hitting the High Street soon.ChokersThis vintage trend hit the scene back in 2016, and we’re here to tell you that our favourite 90s throwback is here to stay. But this trend can be worn with so much more than the classic 90s flannel shirt and mini-skirt. From black velvet designs, to multiple rows, to a glitzy piece embellished with diamantes and crystals, you can find a choker to suit any look.SparkleIt’s not a red carpet without some serious sparkle. We’re sure to see an array of stars glittering in jaw-dropping statement pieces, embellished with diamonds and crystals. This look is set to be another key trend this season, but don’t worry, you needn’t splash your cash on real diamonds to achieve the look. Go for diamante to achieve the same look, at a fraction of the price.Get Red Carpet ReadyIf you’re as excited for The Oscars this weekend as we are, why not embrace the glitz and glamour of it all? Take this as the perfect excuse to get dressed up and hit the town with your girls. To get you on your way, here are our top tips for achieving the perfect red carpet beauty look, at home.
  • For flawless make up, start with a hydrated base! Moisturiser and/or primer are an absolute must.
  • Get that bright-eyed look by dabbing a small amount of silvery-pink eye shadow on the inner corners of your eyes.
  • Make sure your lipstick lasts all night. Apply lip liner over both lips entirely, as you would with your lippy. Coat your lipstick over the top, and blot. Repeat this two more times and you’ll be smudge free until the sun comes up.
  • Swipe highlighter across your cheek bones, forehead, nose and chin (anywhere the sun would naturally touch) for a gorgeous glow.
  • Resist the urge to go over the top. Choose either a smokey eye or a bold lip, don’t go for both
  • Going for an up-do? Use a clear brow gel to tame those pesky fly aways.
For that added sparkle, make sure you complement your look with the right accessories. From hair pins and accessories, to matching necklace, earrings and bracelet sets, here are just a few of our favourite pieces that we think would be perfect the red carpet.
