Royal Ascot Style Guide
First off is the most famous of British race events Royal Ascot which is synonymous with sartorial elegance. This is not only a show-ground for some of the most brilliant racehorses in the world but also a fashion parade for racegoers.
Although dress codes have relaxed over the years the races are still an excellent way to elevate your look. Each enclosure has its own rules which you can find on the official Ascot website. The Royal Enclosure is the most formal but all areas demand race dresses and dressy day-wear. Be warned that whatever type of ticket you may have purchased, dress codes must be strictly adhered to and the racecourse does have the right to refuse entry if they feel you aren’t suitably dressed.
For men, a smart suit and tie is the go to but top hat and tails (black or grey morning dress) is required if you’re in the Royal Enclosure. It is also now a stipulation that men must wear a tie. No cravats are allowed, black shoes are also required and you must wear socks!
The Windsor Enclosure is the only area where men do not need to wear a tie.
For ladies if you are in the Royal Enclosure there are strict rules as to how much flesh is exposed. Dresses that are off-the-shoulder, bardot neckline, halter-neck or have spaghetti straps or straps thinner than one inch are not considered suitable unless you are in the Windsor Enclosure. Miniskirts are frowned on as is exposing your midriff (thankfully!) and needless to say shorts are not permitted. Our style tip is to opt for a killer dress just over the knee, and pair it with a blazer, cape or bolero so you can choose a flattering dress neckline regardless of the enclosure rules. We say go for a killer heel but if you’re worried about being on your feet all day a kitten heel or wedge will still give an elegant finish to your look.
How to accessorise your neckline
Now it’s time for the all-important finishing touches, jewellery and accessories can add the wow to your outfit. The key consideration is choosing styles that work with your outfit neckline, here’s our cheat sheet for a fool proof guide:
Crew Neck: Opt for a dramatic necklace that sits just over the neckline like a bib for ultimate drama
Square Neck: We suggest a choker to enhance the geometric shape of the neckline, add a statement earring to complete the look.
Strapless: Choose a flamboyant necklace that can be seen from every angle.
Boat Neck: For an unexpected way to show long necklaces off, wear them over a wide boat neck.
The perfect dress deserves the perfect accessory. Shop our whole range of necklaces to compliment your race ready look.
Race day is the perfect excuse to wear a hat but if that isn’t your thing we suggest a beautiful head piece or hair accessory for a more contemporary look.

If you have tickets for Wimbledon this July or are planning to watch it with friends closer to home over a cocktail or two, the tennis may be the main event, but the fashion steals the show. While there isn’t an actual dress code for Wimbledon (unless you’re in the Royal Box or VIP suite) the look is sophisticated, and many famous faces dress up to the nines so it’s the perfect opportunity to elevate your look and celebrate the best of British style.
Synonymous tropes – Pimm’s, strawberries, cream, tennis whites – are all reflected in the guest’s carefully-crafted outfits: which are typically amix ofall-white ensembles, and feminine floral dresses. Wimbledon is about finding the perfect balance betweensmart and casual:here are our tips to a stylish courtside look.
Love to Layer: Layering your necklaces has become an art that our favourite ‘It-girls’ have quickly mastered and it’s perfect to elevate your Wimbledon smart/ casual ensemble.
Here are our favourites:
Here are our 4 rules to create the perfect layered look.
- Start with the most delicate piece
- Space out the necklaces, it’s important each piece has breathing room
- Mix metals and textures
- Anchor the entire look with your largest pendant
Wimbledon is the perfect opportunity to wear an aptly named Tennis Bracelet, worn as a stand-alone piece or ‘stacked’ next to other bracelets or a watch ( a favourite with the A listers). Did you know? “Tennis bracelets” got their name when tennis champion Chris Evert lost her diamond bracelet during a big serve at the 1987 US Open and the entire game stopped so she could find it ( every days a school day here at Jon Richard!).
Make a glamorous addition to your Wimbledon style with our ‘look of real diamond’ tennis bracelet selection.
