We interviewed our real life bride @mama.and.little.g as she continued to celebrate her wedding day despite it being cancelled we were truly inspired in what she had to say…
What was your original wedding date?
Our original wedding date was 1st May 2020 (the date we held our would-be-been wedding day)
Tell us a bit about you and your fiance. How did you meet?
We met 12 years ago at a nightclub in Chester. Dave impressed me with his moves on the dance floor, we started dating and as they say the rest is history! We had many wonderful years as just us, relaxing and enjoying holidays around the world and then in 2016 our lives changed (for the better) with the arrival of our son George! Now the three of us have great adventures (pre covid), luckily George shares our love of travel.
How long have you been together? And the all-important how did he propose?
It was our 10 year anniversary in 2018, so my parents kindly offered to look after George whilst we headed off for a short break “just the 2 of us”.
We thought we’d celebrate in style in Las Vegas! So off we went, the day we arrived, Dave had arranged for us to go and see my childhood heartthrob Matt Goss (from Bros, he has a residency in Las Vegas). We ended up being part of the show, it’s an American thing, then at meet & greet Matt couldn’t believe Dave hadn’t proposed yet! Little did he know that Dave had it all planned out for when we returned to the hotel. I was saying to Dave (on repeat) “it was the best night ever!” Poor Dave was having his thunder stollen!
We were staying at The Cosmopolitan, and had a room with a balcony, we were feeling a little jet lagged by this stage, so we retired to the Balcony to relax with a bottle of fizz (after I complained that I couldn’t change into my pj’s). We spent a few minutes taking in the views, the next thing I know is Dave is down on one knee proposing to me, what a moment to choose! Of course, I said “Yes” and then it was definitely the best night ever! We ended going back out and celebrating some more Vegas style!

What were your original wedding plans?
Our original Wedding plans had changed a number of times, we were originally going to head back to Vegas, but due to my health we decided it would be a little bit too much, so planned something a little bit more low key closer to home. We had booked Chester Registry Office, followed by a Reception on the Roof Terrace at Restaurant 1539, Chester. The ideal place for us to celebrate with family and friends. We are so upset that it has been postponed.
Will you be moving your wedding to a new date? What are the new plans?
We have provisionally moved our date to February 2021, we are keeping our options open, if my treatment goes well, we may head back to Vegas like our original plan. It would be fabulous to get married and have a honeymoon all in one, then celebrate with family and friends when we get back! I guess we just need to see what happens with the world between now and then.
Any advice for couples that have had to move or cancel their wedding?
We were determined not to let the Corona Virus spoil our big day, it may not have happened the way we originally planned, but we still celebrated with our family & friends via Zoom. Which we all agreed was much needed during lockdown. We made memories to last a lifetime.
If your wedding gets postponed do what’s best for you, if you feel like it, sit in your PJ’s and drink a glass of fizz, or go a little crazy and have a full on celebration! We decided we’d like to make the day as positive as possible, especially for our little boy, who was devastated to miss out on the party.
I bought a stand in dress (£20 on eBay) and the boys wore suits they already had. I wanted to keep my original wedding dress for our rescheduled big day. I had already bought most of my accessories, so thought I would use my tiara as it matched my new dress so well, plus my Mum had bought it for me pre lockdown, so it as a special touch for our day.
Any advice for couples that have just got engaged and are starting their wedding planning journey?
For anyone looking to start planning their big day, our advice would be go with your heart, do what you guys would like, and not try to please everyone else! It’s your day, enjoy every moment together, and get yourself a fabulous photographer, these are the moments you will looking back on for years to come.
